Ruth Laskey: 7 Weavings
March 14 - April 26, 2008
Ratio 3, 1447 Stevenson Street, San Francisco, CA 94103
Opening reception: March 14, 2008, 6-8pm.
Ratio 3 is pleased to present 7 Weavings, new work by Ruth Laskey, on view from March 14 to April 26, 2008.
Ruth Laskey will present seven new weavings that continue her Twill Series. Using a loom, she creates pieces of linen embedded with colorful geometric shapes derived from the structure of the weave itself. For this body of work, Laskey draws upon her painting background to create new interpretations of color, space, and structure within the weaving process. Hand-dyed colored threads are woven to create subtle illusions of transparent overlap that resonate with the airiness of the woven material. Minimal and delicate, Laskey's practice reinvests in the exploration of the image as it relates to its support with a personal intimate aesthetic.
Ruth Laskey was born in 1975 in San Luis Obispo, CA. She graduated from the California College of the Arts with a B.F.A. in 1999 and an M.F.A. in 2005 with degrees in Painting/Drawing. She has been included in group exhibitions at the Oakland Museum of California (2007), 871 Fine Arts, San Francisco (2007), Ratio 3 (2007) and Pulliam Deffenbaugh Gallery, Portland (2005). She will be in an upcoming group exhibition at Misako & Rosen, Tokyo (2008) and will have a solo exhibition at Song Song, Vienna, Austria (2008). Her work was recently acquired by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and she was the subject of an 'Openings' article in Artforum, February 2008. Laskey currently lives and works in San Francisco. This is her first solo exhibition with Ratio 3.
